More details about this wine and food experience

Our exclusive wine excursions will whisk you away to Alella, a hidden gem of a wine region where time-honoured traditions merge with modern techniques to create some of Spain's finest wines and cavas.

We offer two options for this excursion, both offering a sumptuous lunch amongst the vines:

  • A full-day excursion lasting 7 hours and including visits to two very different vineyards set in contrasting topography and making wines in unique ways.
  • A half-day excursion, lasting four hours and visiting a single vineyard with views of Montserrat.

Throughout your excursion, our friendly and knowledgeable English-speaking guide will accompany you, ensuring your experience is both easy and enjoyable.

They'll share fascinating insights into the region's history, answer your questions about Barcelona and the region, and share local secrets.

Option 1: A full-day excursion

Your private guide will pick you up at your hotel and you will be taken by driver to where our memorable day begins - with a visit to a beautiful, traditional, family vineyard located at the foothills of the Natural Park of Sierra de Marina. On a clear day you can see the infamous Montserrat mountains from the estate. You’ll walk along the vines with one of the owners who’ll explain their history and methods. After this lovely stroll, you’ll enjoy a homemade Catalan meal amidst the vines, savoring the flavors of the region, along with four different wines from the winery.

In the early afternoon the driver will take you to the second winery, located on the hills overlooking the Mediterranean just outside of Barcelona at the edge of the town of Alella, from which this wine region takes its name. Here the history and methodology is different to the first, more modern and inventive. After a short walk and explanation of their take on wine production, we will finish with a taste of 3-4 of their renowned wines/cavas, with lovely views of the sea.

When you have no more room for food (or drink!) the driver will take you back to Barcelona and you should be comfortably installed back in your hotel by 6:00/6:15pm. In this way you can enjoy a little rest before hitting the town again that evening should you wish.

Option 2: a half-day excursion

Our four-hour wine excursion is perfect for those looking for an easy escape from city to explore the beautiful Catalan countryside without spending hours on the road.

This exclusive wine tour offers you the unique opportunity to explore a small, renowned wine region that has remained untouched by the masses. Be one of the few to uncover its exquisite wines, and soak in the breathtaking views of the Monserrat mountains.

Your guide will accompany you travel by car to a beautiful old vineyard, nestled in spacious grounds. You'll be treated to a delicious traditional Catalan lunch amongst the vines. Savor the freshest local ingredients and indulge in traditional Catalan cuisine, perfectly paired with the vineyard's finest wines.

About the experience location: Alella

Alella isn’t on your typical tourist list… but it hasn’t always been such a hidden gem. With its distinctive fast-draining topsoil and unique microclimate in the hills overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, Alella has produced exceptional wines since Roman times, served to Roman Emperors no less! This fame continued into the Middle Ages, where Alella wines were served at the court of the Kings of Aragon.

Today, Alella is the smallest wine producing region in Cataluyna to gain coveted European Denomination of Origen (D.O.) status. But for some reason it isn’t terribly well known abroad. Our mission is to make you fall in love (or fall in love again) with the local variety – the pansa blanca. Over the course of the tour you’ll try white wines, sparking wines, and an aperitif all made from this single, delicately flavoured grape. We will also try the region’s best local reds and rosé.

COVID-19: keeping you safe on our experiences

The safety of guests, guides, partners and the public is our primary concern. Because of this, we’ve developed new health and safety guidelines in accordance with WTO and World Travel and Tourism Council guidelines, and in line with Spanish and Catalan government requirements.

Please review these guidelines before booking and get in touch if you have any questions.

Everything about this tour was amazing Our wonderful guide Esther was great company and took us to places we just wouldn’t have found for ourselves, explaining everything along the way and providing a touch of local colour to the whole experience. Incredible food, great drinks and company. A fantastic experience all round.

My second tour with Barcelona Taste The tour was in the Gothic Quarter with Esther - she was fabulous, gave us interesting information about the area and brought us to different restaurants for wonderful food! Esther was very fun and everyone in our party loved the tour. I highly recommend!!

Incredibly delicious and authentic dishes We had an amazing tour around Eixample with Lorea, our super friendly & knowledgeable guide! She helped us get out of our comfort zone and as a result we enjoyed some incredibly delicious and authentic dishes that we normally wouldn't have tried on our own. The restaurants she brought us to were fantastic. I can't wait to go back and take another one of their tapas/wine tours in one of the other neighborhoods!

We really enjoyed the tapas tour! All of the food was very good and it wasn’t “the usual” tapas. Everything we tried was new to us, except paella. And the paella was very good. We had more than enough food! Maria, our guide, was very knowledgeable and fun. Instead of having wine at every stop, we experienced vermouth and cava as well.

Extensive knowledge of Barcelona's food scene I must say that it was an exceptional experience that exceeded all expectations. The small group size was a significant advantage, as it created an intimate atmosphere & allowed for more personalized attention & interaction. We felt like we were exploring the city with a knowledgeable friend who was eager to introduce us to her favorite local spots. The tour was not just about food; it was an immersive cultural experience that left me with a deep appreciation for the city & its rich gastronomic traditions.

A great lay of the land We went to 3 different tapas restaurants - all were slightly off the beaten path and all were excellent. Maribel explained all the foods as well as the neighborhoods that we walked through. We also learned some Spanish history. Maribel answered all our questions and gave great restaurant suggestions for our following days in Spain. I would suggest you do this tour on one of your first nights in Barcelona, as it gives you a great lay of the land if you've never visited before.

DON'T MISS THIS!!!! We went to 3, off the beaten path tapas restaurants - all had excellent food. I especially enjoyed the beef cheeks. Maribel did all of the food ordering, with respect to dietary restrictions. She answered all of our questions and gave us info and history of the neighborhoods we traversed. She was friendly and very professional. I would recommend doing this tour on one of your first nights in Barcelona, as it gives you a great lay of the land and references to other good places to eat and visit. Enjoy!

Phenomenol experience enjoying fine local food and drink favorites. Our guide Maribel was lovely company and arranged phenomenal tastings of traditional foods as well as some with a gourmet modern twist. The food was plentiful and varied and suited to our tastes. There was no shortage of matching local alcohol/wine as well. We had an intimate tour with just 4 of us, meeting 2 others for an enjoyable evening. If you can, do it early in your arrival as you will get an extensive list of other restaurants to try as well. Only wish we could stay long-term so we could try them all!

A wonderful evening We sampled delicious food and some local wines at each stop. Each of the stops on our tour was quaint and the dishes that were selected for us to try were delicious. We felt welcomed in each of the restaurants we visited and enjoyed the engaging conversation and information provided by our host, Tito. This small group tour felt like an evening with friends, old and new. Highly recommended!
