Wine fit for an Emperor (and food fit for a King)

Alella isn’t on your typical tourist list… but it hasn’t always been such a hidden gem. With its distinctive fast-draining topsoil and unique microclimate in the hills overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, Alella has produced exceptional wines since Roman times, served to Roman Emperors no less! This fame continued into the Middle Ages, where Alella wines were served at the court of the Kings of Aragon.

Today, Alella is the smallest wine producing region in Cataluyna to gain coveted European Denomination of Origen (D.O.) status. But for some reason it isn’t terribly well known abroad. Our mission is to make you fall in love (or fall in love again) with the local variety – the pansa blanca. Over the course of the tour you’ll try white wines, sparking wines, and an aperitif all made from this single, delicately flavoured grape. We will also try the region’s best local reds and rosé.

So happy to write a review about my experience The entire tour, from beginning to end, was delicious and enjoyable. I also have a severe nut allergy, and always felt safe during the tasting. The foods we had, I never would've tried on my own. In essence, The Barcelona Taste serves-up a high quality product. I highly recommend.

Great Tour We toured the Gothic Quarter and ate delicious tapas and sipped amazing wine. We were able to ask a lot of questions about the Gothic Quarter, Barcelona, and Spain. Having lived for a period of years in the United States our guide had an understanding of our lives and we had many laughs together - we left feeling like we were old friends.

I see why so highly rated! I see why the prior ratings were so high! Excellent experience and food exposure. The tours are small groups so very personal. I have been to Barca a few time previously but this definitely added to my local food exposure. Our guide was great and even gave us tips for other eating places to explore on our visit. Definite 2 thumbs up experience.

Exceeded my expectations & was the highlight of our dining experience We booked it the first day we arrived so we could learn the customs and etiquette and if course sample a wide variety of food options. Tito was so friendly and helpful and everything was taken care of for you. We are so much food we were stuffed. And the best selections from each place. Highly recommended.

Just outstanding! We loved our tapas tour through the Gothic District with Maria. She was very attentive in advance to any dietary restrictions we might have, and everything she selected for us to try was just outstanding. A wonderful variety of flavors, followed by a stop for dessert tapas as well. It will remain a favorite memory of our visit to Barcelona - highly recommend!

The best food spots in town Allison was an amazing food tour guide! She was knowledgeable, passionate, and friendly. She shared her insights into the local cuisine. We learned a lot about the history and culture of food in the city, and we had a great time trying all the different dishes. We would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the city.

Fabulous evening We did the tour with Esther and 5 others. She told us about the Gothic quarter and took us to several small intimate tapas bars. We loved the food and the drinks. Wonderful to meet new friends and experience the hidden gems of Barcelona. Thanks Esther!

Great food and perfect introduction to the city! We booked this tour for our first night in Barcelona. It was a great introduction to the city. Maria was a wonderful host, and she shared interesting culinary and cultural details about the city. We thoroughly enjoyed it, and couldn’t have asked for a more pleasant evening!

Best Barcelona dinning experience around! This was an amazing experience and one of the best cooking classes/culinary events I have ever experienced - Lorea and Jay are welcoming, gracious and kind. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who would like an an individualized, authentic, 'intimate' culinary introduction to Catalan gastronomy!!!
