Poble-Sec

Go off the beaten path for an authentic immersion in extraordinary tapas

Poble-Sec (Catalan for 'Dry village') is Barcelona’s old but vibrant performing arts district, a centrally located neighbourhood boasting elegant 19th-century architecture and the best hidden gem restaurants in town.

The neighbourhood has a rich history, having once been outside of the city’s walls and inhabited mainly by residents that couldn’t afford the higher prices for accommodation inside the walls. Nowadays it is known more for its ample offering of theatres and nightclubs, making it Barcelona’s top entertainment district.

Despite being so close to key landmarks of Barcelona, it doesn’t tend to be nearly as crowded or full of tourists as some other neighbourhoods. Plaça Espanya borders it to the west, the Ramblas or Boquería to the north and the port, museums and World Trade Center to the east. But here one can enjoy an evening here and see a “real” part of the city – an area much less inundated by tourists.

We fell in love with Poble Sec because of the incredible culinary offering it has had for the past few decades. The neighbourhood is a hotbed of young chefs running some of the most exciting restaurants in the city. This makes it the perfect setting for a tapas tour – the food is exceptional, with key traditional dishes offered with a little contemporary twist that go beyond the obvious, standard tapas.

Want to eat where the locals eat? See the real Barcelona and enjoy a more adventurous tapas offering? This is the tapas tour for you!

Food and drinks were amazing We went out to get tapas the day before our food tour, and we thought we could skip it - we were wrong! The places Lorea took us were the BEST restaurants we went to on our trip. Highly recommend.

Money and precious time well spent! Our guide was genuine, funny, and so welcoming. We had tons of tapas and beverages all of which were amazing and authentic! Our guide discussed so, so much with us - the very next day we are hitting 3 of her locals only suggestions and feeling very impressed! This is money and precious time well spent!

Food, Fun, and a dash of history thrown in. Like having a fun friend show you all the best spots. And although none of us had food/allergy restrictions she made sure to inquire and was at the ready to ensure everyone had a great time with some delicious food.

Loved this Tapas Tour Maria was our guide and she was friendly, knowledgeable, knew how to lead a group and the others in our group were also fun and enjoyable to be with. There was a variety of dishes and drinks, all different and all mouthwatering. It was a really lovely evening, so thanks Maria, we went to places that we would never have found on our own!

One of our absolute favorite experiences It was like sitting down with an old friend who knows all of the good spots to eat. It was a great first night in Barcelona and helped us navigate the tapas scene in El Born and the Gothic Quarter for the remainder of our trip. Our teenage kids also thought this was one of their favorite things we did on our trip. Great experience all together.

All very easy & I was grateful they were so accommodating Maribel was our host and she provided great insight into their traditions and neighborhoods. None of the food and drink selections were ones I would have chosen on my own, which is what makes the food tour so special. I had a wonderful time and would go again. This process was all very easy and I was grateful they were so accommodating.

Highlight of our Barcelona visit We ate at three wonderful small restaurants and had a delicious variety of tapas. They were all unique places that we never would have found on our own. So glad we found this tour online- it was easy to book, and easy to find our guide in the Gothic quarter. So much fun- I highly recommend it!

Best Food Tour Lorea was fantastic, professional and fun! The sites chosen were all walkable and provided a glimpse into the Gothic and Jewish quarters. More importantly, the food and wine were wonderful. We are still talking about it to our friends and neighbors. Well worth the money!!

A must do for tapas experience My experience with Maribel was outstanding. She provided an excellent tasting at several fine local establishments giving our small group of strangers an evening with education about tapas and tasting the best, from wine to dessert. She was so inviting and personable. Walking pace was easy, food choices were delicious. Price point excellent. Highly recommend.

The Barcelona Taste: because it's delicious

Barcelona is a major tourist destination – the number of guidebooks and websites devoted to the city is overwhelming! Which is why we started The Barcelona Taste ... to save you time so you can experience the best food Barcelona has to offer while side-stepping the crowds.

We take you to small, local businesses offering delicious, top quality food restaurants on our scrumptious tours – because they’re great. We visit, we taste and then we visit again and taste again. Ad infinitum! That’s our research.

We don’t take a “pile ‘em high” approach with our guests. Our focus is on providing the best possible quality in everything we do. This includes limiting our tours to very small numbers, to give personal attention and feed everyone well.
